Secure

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. – Romans 12:2

I know I’m not the only person around who suffers from something I like to call IDD – Insecurity Dysfunctional Disorder. People can be insecure about their looks, their relationship status, their family, their resume, their signing voice…anything. Everything.

It hit me recently that my insecurity only breeds more fear. I need to replace my IDD mentality with different words. I’m worth sacrificing for. I’m worth loving. I’m worth the wait. I am worthy. I tried out my new mantra on a casual date. Instead of being my normal insecure self, I acted confident – more confident that I felt! My coffee date took one look at me and told me how pretty I was. Wow. And that was within the first five seconds. Imagine what I could do with five minutes!

Isn’t it amazing how God gives you a gift – even a seemingly little one – at just the right time? I want to give you a few verses to hold on to next time you feel insecure. Write the verses down on 3x5 cards and place them somewhere you’ll see them regularly – on your bathroom mirror, bulletin board, or the dashboard of your car.

·         “There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).

·         “It is God who enables us…to stand firm for Christ” (2 Corinthians 1:21-22).

·         “God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished” (Philippians 1:6).

·         “We are citizens of heaven” (Philippians 3:20).

·         “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7).

·         “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most” (Hebrews 4:16).

The more you reaffirm who you are in Christ, the more your behavior will begin to reelect your true identity. Rest today in the security and ultimate assurance of God’s love for you.

Prayer: Before I start my day, bring the verses to mind that I need to stand and make it through victoriously. Help me live in the light and make my joy complete as I come into fellowship with you and other believers today. Amen.
