A God-Sized Adventure

For the Lord has called you back from your grief – as though you were a young wife abandoned by her husband. – Isaiah 54:6

Sleeping Beauty lies in bed sleeping while Prince Charming fights his way past fearsome beasts and briars to rescue her. Rapunzel combs her hair in the tower while she waits for her prince to kill the wicked witch. Snow White lies in a coffin, dead to the world, until her prince shows up to kiss her awake. The list goes on and on, until we actually start to believe it. I sure believed I would marry a prince and live happily ever after. But as these fairy tales turned out to be just stories, I had to look around to see what else was out there.

And for me, what was out there was more lies. More pain. “You’re never going to find somebody to love you.” “God has left you. He’s abandoned you. He doesn’t care about you.” I looked in the mirror and believed those lies. On and on they went until I laid down my hurt and surrendered my pride. I learned once again how to find comfort in the arms of my god. And I realized I wasn’t really living the kind of adventure God had for me. Check out what the prophet Isaiah says about this adventure: “Fear not; you will no longer live in shame. You will no longer remember the shame of your youth…For your Creator will be your husband; the Lord of Heaven’s Armies is his name! He is your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, the God of all the earth” (Isaiah 54:4-5).

This kind of God will give you an epic adventure – a God-sized adventure – and will take you places you never dreamed. Throw off the lies today. A flesh-and-blood prince isn’t coming to rescue you from a tower, but God of the Universe is coming to take your hand and your heart. Life will never be boring with Him. So what do you say? Will you live your God-sized adventure?

Prayer: The epic tale of love awaits. You are my royal husband and I am yours and yours alone. I long for the day when I will spend eternity with you. Keep me pure and steadfast until then, and keep me living the God-sized adventure. Amen.
