Soul Tie

Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts. – 1 John 5:21

When God created Adam and Eve, He created them to be united together. The Bible says that when “a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife…they become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). One flesh. When two people sleep together their souls and their bodies are tied up into each other. This “mystery of one flesh” is one of the greatest gifts God gave us, and it’s worth saving for marriage. When used outside of God’s plan, hearts and bodies can become broken almost beyond repair.

I can’t tell you how many phone calls I’ve received from friends who went outside God’s plan for marriage. I’ve listened to them sobbing on the other end of the line and wished I had a way to soothe their suffering. God says in His Word that He always gives us a way, but we have a choice to take that escape route – or not. You can choose today to walk in the freedom Jesus already bought and paid for.

While you wait for the man or woman of your dreams to come into your life, you can participate in another mystery. When Paul talks about husbands and wives in Ephesians, he says that the union of two people in marriage “is a profound mystery – but I am talking about Christ and the church” (Ephesians 5:32). You can have all of Christ you want, and you can have Him today. Embrace Christ and His community – the fellowship of believers all over the world.

Prayer: Don’t let me give the enemy any ground. Renew my mind through your word. Teach me how to take my thoughts captive – no matter how fast the lies and thoughts of the enemy come. Renew my relationships today in your name. Amen.
