Everybody likes a happy ending. We all crave a power like the woman in this story felt – a power greater than ourselves that can restore us to wholeness. That was the power that left Jesus’s body when the woman who had been ill for so many years touched Him. Doctors had given up on her, and she had lost all hope. Until this man Jesus showed up.
She was too embarrassed or afraid to be seen, so she just reached out, and when she thought no one was paying attention, touched His rob.But Jesus was paying attention. He knew that someone had touched Him. He knew He had the power to transform not just the woman’s disease-ridden body, but also her heart. That’s why He called her out in front of everyone. “When the woman realized that she could not stay hidden, she began to tremble,” Luke says.
How often is that like us? We feel totally and completely unsatisfied. We long for…someone. We dare to dream of the day when that guy or girl is going to walk into the room and change our lives forever. But what happens when he or she does? What if those feelings of unworthiness (like the woman felt) don’t go away? What if it turns out that a human being won’t be able to satisfy all the longings of our hearts? Let Jesus heal, fulfill, and transform your heart, the same way He fulfilled and transformed the woman who came to Him.
Prayer: You see me. You hear all my prayers. You see me when I’m lying in bed at night crying and feeling alone. You see me when I’m at work or school, waiting to be noticed. Thank you. Holy Spirit, that Your love never fails and Your grace is unending. Help me to apply it to my relationships as I wait in eager anticipation for my own happy ending. Amen.
