Wingman

When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he sounds the alarm to warn the people. – Ezekiel 33:3

Who’s your dearest, closest friend? The one person you could count on in any situation? The man or woman who will always be there when you’re in trouble, no matter how inconvenient it is?

That person’s responsibility toward you – and yours toward him or her – isn’t just to hang out, watch movies together, and have a good time. A friend ship that deep requires truth in all things. This is the friend who can warn you away from danger and tell you you’re screwing up...and then turn around and buy you that latte you’ve been craving because she understand how tough life can be.

“A friend is always loyal,” says Proverbs 17:17, “and a brother is born to help in time of need.” WE all need these people in our lives, and we all have friends who need us to be the wingman when times are tough. In Ezekiel 33:6 we’re warned, “If the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people…I will hold (him) responsible for their deaths.” This isn’t a responsibility to take lightly. If you see a friend stumbling (lying, cheating, sleeping around, abusing alcohol or other substances, or engaging in other damaging behaviors) and doesn’t say something because you’re afraid of hurting his feelings, you’ll be held accountable.

Don’t take your watchman/wingman for granted this week. Go out of your way to thank her for the godly presence she is in your life…maybe buy her that latte while you’re at it!

Prayer: I need all the help I can get. Don’t let me go through life alone. Bring the right people close to me, and help me to take advantage of their wisdom and courage today. Amen.
