When I was growing up, I was always the “good girl.” I
never seriously rebelled against my parents or their authority. I respected
them too much to do otherwise.
Scripture has a much more beautiful definition of the “good
girl” than “someone who doesn’t rebel.” She may not stand out right away, but
you certainly know one. She could be your BFF, mother or teacher. Check out
what Solomon has to say about the characteristics of a godly woman.
The good girl – Solomon calls her “a wife of noble
character” – can be trusted. She enriches her husband’s life. She brings good
to her family, not harm. She works. She buys land. She is energetic. Strong. Her
business is profitable. She stays out of trouble and puts her hands to work. She
dresses well and her husband is respected in the city. She’s dignified but she
knows how to laugh. Her words encourage others, and people go to her for godly advice.
Hello? Who wouldn’t want to date this person? Can you
think of any women in your life – you mother, grandmother, sister, girlfriend,
or significant other – who exemplify a few of these qualities? What is it about
he that you admire or find attractive? Take the time to tell her today. Thank her
for the work he’s done and give her the praise she is due.
Prayer: You are
perfect and your desire for me, your child, is to be perfect! Soften my heart
to receive your love. Amen.
