Mr. NIce Guy

Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7

It’s a common rule that “nice guys finish last.” they don’t have that edge, that sexy devil-may-car attitude that gives the bad boys their appeal. But if nice guys finish last in our culture…well, check out what the Bible says happens to the bad boys. “Though the wicked sprout like weeds and evildoers flourish, they will be destroyed forever” (Psalms 92:7). That’s right…bad boys don’t finish at all.

The nice guy might feel like he’s getting left behind, but his integrity, morality, and strong principles will steer him through. “Follow the steps of good men instead, and stay on the paths of the righteous. For only the godly will live in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it,” says Solomon (Proverbs 2:20-21).

The nice guy – the godly guy – respects his girlfriend. He’s humble and teachable, and always striving to better himself for God and for the woman he loves. He’s upright and lives beyond reproach. He keeps Christ at the center of the relationship, knowing that “in him all things hold together” (Colossians 1:17). He seeks godly advice from wise teachers. He is cautious and self-controlled, is patient, faithful, and loyal.

If women overlook him to go after the wild ride instead, they’ll find that the adventure is short-live. The Bible says, “It is better to be godly and have little than to be evil and rich. For the strength of the wicked will be shattered, but the Lord takes care of the godly” (Psalm 37:16-17). If you’re a nice guy who’s been single for a while, be encouraged. The maturity process takes time, but your character will shine through in the end.

Prayer: It’s hard not to take the wrong path. Everywhere I look it seems that people are desperate for pleasure. Keep me moving forward in wisdom while focusing my eyes straight ahead. Amen.
